Golden Age Hollywood Legend Ann Blyth Dies at 98 Weeks Before Milestone Birthday Celebration

Hollywood has lost one of its last true Golden Age stars as Academy Award-nominated actress Ann Blyth has died at the age of 98, leaving behind a remarkable legacy that stretched across film, television, and stage.

Blyth passed away from natural causes on June 25, only weeks before what would have been her 99th birthday, according to her family.

She first captured audiences as a child performer on radio before making the leap to Hollywood in the mid-1940s, where her combination of acting talent and beautiful singing voice quickly made her one of the industry’s brightest young stars.

Her defining breakthrough came in 1945 when, at just 16 years old, she portrayed the unforgettable Veda Pierce, the manipulative daughter of Joan Crawford’s character in the classic Mildred Pierce.

The powerful performance earned Blyth an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress and secured her place among Hollywood’s elite.

She went on to star in acclaimed productions including The Great Caruso, Brute Force, and Rose Marie, proving she was equally comfortable in dramas and musicals.

Despite stepping away from major film roles later in her career, Blyth continued appearing on television in beloved series such as The Twilight Zone and Murder, She Wrote, with her final screen appearances arriving during the 1980s.

Her family remembers her not only for her career but also for her love of gardening, knitting, oil painting, and personally responding to fan mail—a rare gesture that made her especially beloved by admirers.
