Brent thought he was doing his boss a simple favor when he agreed to take Georgia, Sheldon Pryce’s eighteen-year-old daughter, to her senior prom. He was twenty, barely making ends meet, and working long hours at a warehouse to help his mother and younger sister pay the bills. He had no idea that his boss had been quietly watching him for months, observing how he handled difficult customers, unexpected problems, and stressful situations. When Sheldon asked him to take Georgia to prom, Brent agreed, partly because he respected his boss and partly because the extra money could make life easier for his family. But the evening started strangely. Georgia barely spoke to him, Sheldon took dozens of photographs, and just before entering the school gym, she revealed a message from her father: “Remember our agreement. But when her aunt approached them and mentioned how impressed Sheldon’s family was with Brent’s ability to remain calm under pressure, his suspicions grew. Later, Georgia finally admitted that her father was planning something involving the company. A new warehouse was opening in Westfield, and Sheldon needed someone to manage it. Brent was apparently his strongest candidate, but Sheldon believed he might be too modest to recognize his own abilities. Then, just when Brent thought the strangest part of the evening was over, Georgia revealed that her father’s interest in him went beyond business. He had wanted to see how Brent would treat the person he loved most in the world. And Brent was about to discover why that mattered more than any promotion…CONTINUE READING
