My Husband Burned My Dress to Stop Me From His Promotion Party2

Adrian dropped to his knees in front of everyone.

Not out of love.

Out of fear.

“Clara, please,” he said. “I didn’t know.”

I looked at him calmly.

“You did know,” I said. “You just didn’t care.”

Behind him, Vanessa slowly stepped away, realizing she was standing too close to collapse.

“I terminate his position immediately,” I said.

Harrison nodded without hesitation.

“Yes, Madame.”

Adrian’s voice broke.

“I’ll lose everything.”

“You already did,” I replied.

Security moved in.

The room watched in silence as the man who once controlled every room was escorted out of his own future.

But the next morning, the silence changed.

It turned into something else entirely.

My phone rang.

Harrison’s voice was different.

Heavier.

“The audit uncovered something unexpected.”

I sat up.

“What?”

“Transfers from your foundation,” he said. “Multiple years.”

My chest tightened.

“To where?”

A pause.

“A medical trust. For Emily Cole.”

The world shifted slightly at her name.

Adrian’s sister.

The girl I raised like my own.

Three million dollars had been moved quietly while I was told she wanted nothing to do with me.

And I had believed it.

Hours later, I stood in a hospital room.

Emily was there.

Thin.

Weak.

Alive.

And when she saw me, she whispered my name like it hurt to say it.

“I thought you forgot me,” she said.

My voice broke for the first time.

“I never did.”

Then she told me the truth.

Adrian had lied.

About everything.

About me.

About her.

About the money.

And as she cried in my arms, I realized the real betrayal had never been at the ballroom.

It had been years in the making.

And Adrian wasn’t finished yet.

Because on my phone, a new message appeared.

You’ll regret this.

And for the first time since I took control of my own life…

I believed him.
