My Sister Dumped Her Kids at My Door After I Said No—But She Sent Them to the Wrong Address, and Everything Changed

When my sister texted, “I know where you live. You’ll watch my kids whether you want to or not,” I thought it was another empty threat.

Stephanie had spent years expecting everyone else to solve her problems.

If she needed a babysitter, she didn’t ask.

She simply informed you.

When I refused to cancel the biggest week of my career to watch her three children while she went on a cruise with her new boyfriend, she called me selfish.

I stood my ground.

What I didn’t tell her was that I’d quietly moved into a new apartment after receiving that disturbing text.

Only my closest friend, my boss, and my new property manager knew where I lived.

Stephanie never bothered to ask.

She simply assumed I was still living at my old apartment.

On Tuesday morning, while preparing for the most important client presentation of my career, my phone rang.

The taxi dispatcher sounded confused.

“Ma’am, our driver can’t find your apartment.”

“My apartment?”

“The one on Maple Creek Drive. We’re delivering three children.”

My heart stopped.

That wasn’t my address anymore.

It was my old apartment.

Seconds later, another call came from the cruise ship.

Stephanie had listed me as the emergency guardian and had already boarded her vacation.

She believed her children were being dropped off at my home.

Instead, they were heading toward a complete stranger’s apartment.

I immediately called my former leasing office.

That’s when the manager said something that changed everything.

“The woman who moved into your old apartment… she’s a Child Protective Services detective.”

I froze.

By the time I arrived, police cars surrounded the building.

A taxi had already delivered my terrified niece and nephews to the wrong door.

And the woman who answered wasn’t just any tenant.

She was already opening an official child abandonment investigation.
