Instead of disappearing, the chain is betting everything on transformation. Thousands of underperforming locations will go dark, while surviving restaurants are being rebuilt almost from the ground up. Sleek digital menus, three-lane drive-thrus, and faster kitchens are designed to erase memories of sluggish service and tired dining rooms. The goal is simple: make the brand feel new again without losing the comfort of what people already love.

Behind the scenes, the menu is being refined, not replaced—streamlined to speed up orders while highlighting the classics that built its name. Massive ad campaigns will push the message that this isn’t a collapse, but a comeback. For loyal customers and worried workers, it’s a nerve-wracking in-between moment: part funeral, part rebirth. The question now is whether this bold rebranding can truly reclaim the flame—or burn through the last of their good will.
